Oral Pathology
Oral and maxillofacial pathology is the specialty of dentistry and pathology that investigates the cause, nature, process, and effects of the diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions.
The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology in Dasmesh Institute of Research and Dental Sciences functions with a mission statement of creating the department as a center of excellence in oral pathology and microbiology. The department was established in 1992 with an aim of academics and research program, and also, more importantly, the department provides services to the patients by diagnosing the biopsied specimens, and hematological and forensic investigations.
This department does have a good infrastructure and is composed of experienced eminent faculty members, a spacious undergraduate practical section, and well equipped clinical and histopathological laboratory for teaching & training 100 undergraduate students. Apart from teaching oral pathology for Second and third-year BDS students, the department is also involved in training the first year BDS students in oral biology, a composite of basic Dental Sciences & their clinical applications which includes instructions in the subject of Dental Morphology, Oral Embryology, Oral Histology, and Oral Physiology. This is essential for understanding the histological basis of various dental treatment procedures.
The infrastructure of the department includes an undergraduate student’s laboratory with a seating capacity of 100 students. This laboratory is aimed to make students learn the practical aspects of Oral pathology, Dental Anatomy and Dental Histology. Department also has an OPD unit with two dental chairs for the diagnostic aspect of the oral and maxillofacial lesions. The histopathology laboratory of the laboratory is e fully equipped for the tissue processing and staining of biopsied specimens and cytological specimens.
Department is having dedicated, qualified teaching and non-teaching faculty members. All the faculty members regularly participate in various inter-departmental events (special lectures/workshops/seminar/webinar) held in the college as well as national and international specialty conferences/CDE/Conventions. Faculties of the department collectively contributed nearly 100 research publications in various national and international journals with high impact factors. It is proud for the department as well as the institution that this department was selected as BEST DEPARTMENT OF ORAL PATHOLOGY IN INDIA for the year 2016 at the 9th International Dental Students & 3rd Dental Surgeons Congress.
