Public Health Dentistry
Public Health Dentistry Department focuses on the science and art of preventing and controlling dental diseases, and promoting dental health through organized community efforts. Our faculty and staff are responsible for the planning and execution of community based extra mural experiences (both clinical and non clinical) and public health course work of the dental students.
We work with a mission to eliminate disparities in health status and access to health care services, promote optimum oral health and prevent disease through research, training and preventive and curative services.
Department is fully equipped with ultramodern dental chairs and most sophisticated gadgets to increase awareness about dental health in general population and is presently being utilized for individual patient counselling and tobacco cessation program.
Department is actively involved in dental camps and awareness programs specifically targeting rural population and school going children and has acquired 1 state of art air-conditioned mobile dental vans equipped with most updated instruments and gadgets. Our mobile dental unit (MDU) also helps in this endeavour of providing oral health care to the underserved in the rural areas.
The department also runs 6 Satellite Clinics for the benefit of patients where the basic oral health care is rendered. The clinics are well equipped with all facilities to ensure quality care. Referral care is brought to college on carry way basis and oral health services are provided on nominal charges.
Department has adopted “Learning from Experts: A Course for Health care Professionals” – Online tobacco cessation programme developed by faculty at John Hopkin’s Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA and the interns are required to complete this programme failing which their internship is not completed.
This discipline provides a forum for overall patient care and is a stepping stone in bringing a positive oral health. It has tremendously changed minds and long way to go. The theme holds true – “Oral Health for Overall Health”
